Wood industry

The Ballons des Vosges Park is dedicated to promoting short tours as well as local produce and craftsmanship.

The forest covers more than 170,000 ha, in other words 65 % of the Park Territory. Productive and diversified, the Vosgian forest supplies the wood industry in two areas:

  • the first transformation: sawmills – still plentiful on the Vosgian and Franche-Comté sides. Regroupings and co-ops promote Vosgian Wood, such as the Sélection Vosges Label.
  • the second transformation: framework and carpentry businesses of varying sizes provide many jobs.

In today’s global warming context, the use of renewable energies as well as the construction of buildings in natural materials prosper. “Energy Woods” and “Construction Woods” are thus becoming very popular.
