Granite extraction and production has characterised the Vosges mountains for centuries. These activities are emblematic of the Vosges part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park.

The qualities inherent to this material as well as the know-how required to work with it are widely recognised, often well beyond the Vosges mountains. ‘Blue grey’ is a renowned type of granite found solely in the Hautes-Vosges. Extracted in La Bresse for the most part, this granite is used in numerous public squares, buildings, and monuments in the region or ‘Grand Est’ towns.
