The diverse landscapes of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Natural Park offer a perfect setting for a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, climbing, water sports, and winter sports. The Park actively encourages these activities, ensuring they are enjoyed responsibly and with respect for the fragile wildlife and ecosystems. Let’s embrace the Quietude Attitude!

Winding through the Hautes-Vosges, numerous trails descend into the Vosgian and Haut-Rhin valleys. They meander across the Mille Étangs plateau, venture into the foothills of the Vosges, and extend towards the Alsatian Piedmont.
Whether you are looking for a short half-hour walk or a multi-day trek, there is something for everyone. This hiker’s paradise is home to some ofthe longest trails (GR routes) with the Ballon d’Alsace standing as a major landmark. For a safe and enjoyable experience, rely on the TOP25 maps published by the Club Vosgien and IGN, which detail the thousands of kilometres of well-maintained and clearly marked trails, thanks to the dedication of volunteers. With the mountain refuges and activities offered by organisations such as the French Alpine Club and the Club Vosgien, hiking here is always respectful of the natural landscapes.

This ethos is also shared by mountain guides for whom hiking goes hand in hand with raising awareness about fragile species and ecosystems.

Enjoy Nature with Peace of Mind

To help protect wildlife and maintain its tranquillity, the Park has developed a programme in collaboration with local organisations to promote good practices for outdoor sports, especially hiking:

  • Familiarise yourself with quiet zones and regulations,,
  • Stay on marked trails within quiet zones,
  • Respect the natural silence,
  • Keep your dog on a lead,
  • Prioritise activities during daylight hours.
